Nobility ~ Kayla Bain-Vrba

Current Read 4

Who doesn’t love a fairy tale?! A princess trapped in a tower to be rescued by her prince charming and he turns out to be her one true love! SIGH… well… In this case, it’s a princess who had her fairy god mother curse her and lock her away in a tower until her prince charming rescued her. It didn’t go according to plan. Did I mention that the tower was protected by harpies?

Princess Danna was rescued by Nobelle, a beggar who turned to a life of crime to survive, only to have a nobleman try to take advantage of her. As a result, she kills the nobleman. But beggars don’t get the right to claim self-defense. So to clear her name, she must rescue the princess and. The deal, rescue the princess and break the curse… you will marry the princess. But like all fairy tales, there’s a misunderstanding… a bad guy to be defeated and a happily ever after.

It started off well enough and the banter between Princess Danna and Nobelle was pretty entertaining. They balanced each other pretty well, with Princess Danna being the ever hopeless romantic… a dreamer, while Nobelle was the cynic… the realist. However, it became a bit formulaic. While it was entertaining and took all of maybe 30 minutes to read (yes, it’s that short)… it fell a bit short. I’d give it 3 and a half stars… Not bad… but not great.

  • Put one of the award’s button into your post.

  • Come up with 10 new questions for the ones you nominated.
  • Nominate 5 blogs that have less than 300 follower.
  • Let your nominees know through a comment that you nominated them.

1. If you could back in time, where would you go? I’m weird… I’m torn between the late 1920’s and the late 1960’s.

2. Let say you and only you have a 25th hour every day, what would you do with it? Read more books!

3. Marvel or DC Comics? Marvel! Who doesn’t love Captain America?!

4. One movie from your childhood you can remember clearly. Beauty and the Beast… great now the song is stuck in my head

5. What is the last book you rated 5 stars? “Her Knight In Black Leather” by JM Stewart (Read my review here!)

6. Everyday McDonalds or spinach and why? Not that I like either option… I’d have to go with spinach. I’m vegan and there’s nothing I can have at McDonald’s except something to drink… and who goes to McDonald’s for just something to drink?! But the spinach has to be raw… I don’t like slimy food… 😦

7. From what thing, that you love, could you abstain the most likely? I have to go with chocolate. It’s really tough to do, but I have to say giving up cheese was much harder!

8. What is your favourite apple type? I am a fan of the Pink Lady apple. It’s very sweet, but hard to find…

9. One thing you are really proud of. I’m torn between creating my blog and converting my closet into a library!

10. Coffee or tea? I prefer coffee, but I’ll take tea in a pinch!

I nominate the following:

Undressed ~ Shannon Richards

Abby works for the PR department for hockey team in Florida. In her contract, a strict, no fraternizing clause. That’s too bad… Logan is on the hockey team she works for… and he wants her. They are stranded in a cabin on their way to see a sick teen and things start to progress. Can they keep their relationship a secret or will the secret relationship come to light?

I loved this story. I did feel it was too short, but that was because I didn’t want the story to end. The chemistry between Abby and Logan was amazing. He is very sweet and tender, but he’s also extremely private. So when something that he’s kept to himself is revealed… well, things get really tight and a huge misunderstanding occurs.

The story, although too short for me (I never wanted it to end) was wonderful. It was well written and it gave a small glimpse into what goes on in the locker room. It was a really sweet story and well told.

Baby’s On Fire ~ A. F. Henley

Current Read 3

Sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll! This book has it all. The story alternates between October 1974 and 1994. It’s about what it’s like to be on top and lose everything and self discovery.

Gerry Faun takes his younger sister to see international superstar, Maxx Starlight (Mark Devon), at a concert and is invited to stay after and meet him. Changes their lives forever. Gerry never found someone who was genuinely interested in him and Mark never met anyone quite so pure and Gerry (who Mark lovingly refers to as Fawn). However, given the time period… homosexuality isn’t quite the rave. Gerry’s father isn’t very accepting of Gerry’s sexuality once it’s made public and forces him to leave home. While out on the road with Mark, Gerry gets to see the lifestyle of a rock star and it’s definitely not what he’s used to. You get a sense of who is there for Mark and who is there for Maxx. The problem… Mark can’t tell who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy. Through the series of events that’s all happening in one night, Gerry has decided enough was enough and he leaves.

The relationship and that one night has been something that has been plaguing Gerry for 20 years. Gerry has made a life for himself. He has his own place, a job that he’s good at with a boss who’s not so bad (there’s a plot twist here)… but he’s lonely. And so is Mark. Now Mark must do whatever it takes to win him back. All he has to do is get Gerry to at least talk to him.

The writing, the story… well done. I don’t tend to like stories that jump back and forth in time, but this was well executed. I give it 4 out of 5 stars… it was a bit too explicit for me… but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the story.
