Everyone has a past. Some more tragic than others. No one knows that better than Zara Edgingway. She left her past behind her, with the help of her best friend, Deanna, and had been looking over her shoulder for 6 years. Talon, leader of the Hawks Motorcycle Club, has had his eye on Zara for the past 6 years and decided today was the day. She made quite the impression on him the first day they met and he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Now her past is catching up with her, and Zara has a decision to make. Do I run or do I stay and fight? Talon, too, has a decision. Will he let her run, or will he stand and fight for her?

I had purchased this book several months ago, with every intention of reading it as soon as I purchased it. Every time I was going to start reading this, I would find another book to read, for fear of being disappointed in this book.  I had been in a reading funk lately and just I was starting to come out of it, I decided to give this book a shot. I’m so glad I did! I read this in one sitting. Not only did I read this in one sitting, but I also grabbed the next book and read that one too! There was humor, romance, suspense, and mystery. Zara is sweet, kind and beautiful, inside and out. Talon is possessive, protective, foul-mouthed, and loving. I regret putting this story off because I feel like this story (maybe even this series) pulled me out of a funk!

Book Review: Clutch ~ Lisa Becker

Clutch is a light, fun read that will have you laughing out loud sometimes and frustrated at other times. Join Caroline in the world of dating as she tries to find her “Happily Ever After,” her Clutch.

Early on, you know how this is going to end. I didn’t mind that, but I was interested to see how we would get there. Caroline went on a series of dates over time, and each guy represented a purse of some sort. In a weird kind of way, some of the guys I found a little endearing, while I found others tried my nerves a bit. Reading about Caroline’s dating escapades did give some exaggerated misadventures, but over glasses of wine, it was fun to hear her tell her best friend and bar owner, Mike, about them.

One of my issues with this was there really wasn’t any character building. At times it felt as though you knew more about Caroline’s dates than Caroline… or Mike for that matter. As someone who hasn’t been to California (yet), it would have been nice to have some sort of details about Caroline’s surroundings.

Becker’s writing is fun and easy, making this an interesting read. She accurately describes everyone’s fear of growing old alone. The narration by Suzanne Barbetta was spot on with each character creation. Each character was distinct and brought to life. While predictable, it was still worth the read.

At some point in everyone’s life, they loved magic, thought magic was real, watched a movie/show about magic, wished they could do magic. For Toby, it was a reality… he just didn’t know it yet. One morning, which should have been an ordinary morning, twelve-year-old Toby sees a long line of people dressed in funny clothes, waiting outside his neighbor’s house. He calls for his grandfather, but his grandfather doesn’t see anything. Grandpa goes upstairs and now he’s missing. In order to save his grandfather, Toby must dive headfirst into a world he didn’t know existed and believe the impossible. With the help of Thatch and Wesa, both of whom are also in the same boat as Toby, must work together to save their loved ones and preserve the world of magic.

This had the vibe of Harry Potter with the world building and how two separate worlds coexist. Each chapter painted a vivid picture and the story drew you in with every chapter. As the chapters passed by, the action intensified and left you needing to know what happens next. As the Toby, Thatch, and Wesa worked together as a team and thwarted the villain along the way, they found they had allies in the most interesting places… and people. I loved this story and the preview of the next book only whetted my appetite, but I need the next one immediately! Maybe if I say “Abracadabra”…

This post is late because I’ve read this book twice in a row! If I thought I loved the first one, this one takes the cake! And it’s longer, so I get more Keegan! What do you do when the lead singer of your favorite band is an immortal pirate… and is sexy as all get out?! You help him keep his immortality! The interactions between the two are striking and passionate! For a guy who didn’t consider romance to be in his cards, He has quite the thing for Char… and who doesn’t love a smart girl!? The writing is impeccable and kept me wanting to more. Between the love scenes and all the action, I couldn’t get enough. Please let there be a book 3!
