Sometimes a secret can change everything… and I do mean everything. It was a secret so big, Lex was forced to leave everything behind… Striker included. Forced to return for her sister’s wedding, Lex comes face to face with Striker and is looking for answers. He’s waited 6 years for this moment. Will Striker be able to handle what he hears, or will he turn Lex away forever?

Oh. My. Word! This tore me apart. The strength Lex exhibits was astounding. There was more to this secret and Lex than what meets the eye. Striker is a character that is easy to fall in love with. He gives you just enough “bad boy” vibes, but also has a heart of gold. This story was told from dual POV and it was lovely. Sarah Puckett’s narration was spot on with giving each character their own personality. The one complaint I have is it was difficult to tell when the characters were having a memory. This happened quite a bit, but I didn’t realize it was a memory until Lex or Striker were almost done reliving the memory. It probably reads better in print. I will say it didn’t stop me from enjoying the story.

I have a secret. A secret that chased me away from my home, my family, away from the only man I’ve ever loved.

I took that secret and pushed it down inside of me. So far down, that it never had a chance of coming out. That dirty little secret was like a seed. A seed that took root and grew to become a piece of me. But what happens when that secret has finally outgrown me?

When its vines climb over every wall I have in place?

When it finally overfills that little spot inside of me that it’s been buried in for so long now? All secrets come out eventually. I just hope mine doesn’t destroy everyone I love.

This book is meant for mature adults. Reader discretion is advised.

What if The Little Mermaid was a boy?
My name is Adrian. I’m the son of Poseidon, the prince of the sea. Oh, and I’m also a merman. But I’m sick of being underwater– my heart dreams of living on land.
I thought I’d be stuck with fins for good, until I fell for a beautiful human. Isamaria is everything I’ve ever wanted. The entire ocean isn’t enough– I need to be with her.
I only have one option. The sea warlock Stavros has the power to turn me into a human, so I can walk on land and be with Isa. He makes me a deal… he will turn me into a human for three days. I have until then to convince Isa to fall in love with me.
Otherwise, the entire sea– and all who inhabit it– will belong to him. Even worse, I’ll be stuck as a merman. Permanently.
And I’ll lose Isa forever.

Every now and again, you read a book that frustrates you… but you love it! That is this book for me!! “Barreled Over” is about Ava Grace, one of country music’s biggest stars, and Jonah Beck (known to friends and family as Beck), son of the family that is synonymous with bourbon. While Ava Grace is battling her record company who wants her top broaden her fan base of just women, with wacky ideas of how to do that, Beck is trying to make a name for himself. Together, they can help each other, and find love at the same time!

Everything about this story is adorable and funny, with great characters. While the two main characters have some not-so-great things in their in past and I  understand why they are the way they are, I found myself almost liking the secondary characters more than the main characters. As this is my first book by this author, it felt as though I should already know some of the characters. It didn’t detract from the story, but it did make me wonder if I was missing out.

The chemistry between Ava Grace and Beck is wonderful. They have great banter and the chemistry is instant. What I loved about this book is the bourbon lessons you get! I know it’s not the point of this book, nor is it meant to be the focus, but I thought it was fascinating and a nice addition to the story. I am intrigued to see where this series will go, as I enjoyed getting to know Ava Grace and Beck.

Book Review: Truth ~ Avery Woods

Truth was a nice introduction to Avery Woods. This was thoughtful and engaging. Cori and Jesse were interesting characters for me. While I felt for Cori and what she was going through, I wanted more of Jesse. I felt like I didn’t get enough of Jesse’s story. I would have loved for his character to be fleshed out a bit more, with that being said… I adored Jesse. I just wished he was a bit more expressive. As this is book 2 and I have not read book 1, I felt like I was going through the emotional wringer. There were a few funny moments for me so that it didn’t seem so heavy, there were moments where I didn’t know what I would do if I were in their shoes. It caused a bit of self-reflection for me, and I for one appreciated it. With this introductory read of Avery Woods, I’m intrigued to read the first book of the series… knowing I need to have my tissues handy!

Abandoned at a young age, Cori has been told growing up that her biological mother has been MIA due to a severe illness. Cori decides to take matters into her own hands where she finally seek answers regarding her mother. However, sometimes secrets are better kept hidden…

After a childhood incident ruined any shot of Jesse having a relationship with his parents, he is finally glad to be living on his own, where he isn’t constantly reminded of what happened. That is, until his seventeen-year old step sister, Bethany, confides in him that she’s pregnant. Jesse vows to help Bethany, but what is the right choice to make when she wants to keep her pregnancy a secret? The truth is bound to come out….
Cori and Jesse grow closer, when Cori’s fiancée attends a wedding in Italy. Cori and Jesse relate to one another, when each confides secrets of their own. However, when each reveal their secrets, will the other be able to handle the truth?

“Are you ready?” Jesse asks me.
Am I ready? No. Do I have to do this? Yes. “Where are you going to be?”
“There is a nearby record store I wanted to check out. Depending how long you take, I might go back to the hotel and call Bethany. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. Just call me, either way. Even if I don’t make it down the block.”
“Okay.” I’m glad he has something to do. It will be embarrassing if I end up calling him after a short time, but I know Jesse won’t be judgmental, which is why I let him accompany me on this trip. “I’ll call you when I’m done.”
Jesse rubs my thigh before I get out. “Good luck, Cori.”
I give him an uneasy grin as I step out of the passenger seat. I can feel my whole body shaking. Jesse reverses slowly, and I give him a weak wave as he drives away. I like that he is giving me privacy. I need to do this on my own.
I take five calming breaths and begin to move my shaky legs towards the front door. Shivers run up and down my spine. I’m covered in goose bumps. I can’t believe I am actually doing this. It’s surreal. A million thoughts run through my mind, and by the time I get to the door, I realize I have no idea what I am going to say to her. I don’t think, ‘Hi, I’m the daughter you abandoned almost twenty five years ago’ is a great opener.
I stand in front of my mom’s house for a couple minutes, just trying to collect my thoughts and process through my head that I am actually standing in front of my mom’s house. I decide it’s like pulling off a band aid and I just need to knock on the door. Before my mind convinces me to chicken out, I lift my fist and knock on the door.
When I hear movement coming from inside the house, I’m tempted to turn around and book it. I keep my feet firmly planted on the ground, as I keep reminding myself that I can do this. A few seconds later the door opens, and I am almost certain my heart stops for a good couple of beats.
The woman who opens the door is of average height, with a petite waist. She is extremely beautiful. She has the same porcelain doll skin as I do, but unlike me she has shoulder length, straight blonde hair. She has a small nose, with big blue eyes that are darker in colour than mine. Her lips are full, and she is wearing a cream cashmere sweater with dark blue denim jeans. She has a few soft wrinkles on the corners of her eyes, but opposed from that she looks almost too young to be my mom.
“Meredith Holmes?” I ask.
She gives me a puzzled look, letting me know that she has no idea who I am. My stomach drops shortly, but I regain myself, as she answers. “That’s me. How can I help you?”
