You have to love a book that tells you upfront, the main character is a bit of a prick. He’s rude, obnoxious, a bit pretentious, and unapologetic. He, my dear friends, is Eddie Lancaster… and he’s in a bit of a pickle! Unfortunately for Eddie, he’s about to find out why all those character traits listed above is starting to be his downfall.

He meets Ashley Sheridan, who is in serious need of his services and is in trouble… Killian Myers, an extremely powerful man, wants her to make him invincible. She can’t do it alone. But what can you do when the one man you don’t want to help, can see your every move?

This was a fast-paced story, with action and humor on almost every page. The writing was great, but the narration was better. The narrator, Hans Hill, adds a personality to each character and brings them to life. This had just the right amount of humor and sarcasm, without it being overbearing and annoying. I found myself laughing out loud and thoroughly enjoying this story.

Oh, the feels! I don’t know where to begin with this action-packed book! Opposition picks up where Origin leaves off… Katy and friends trying to save the world, and they have to do so without knowing who they can trust. The world is upside down for them… the people they thought would never betray them, do and the people they always thought were enemies become their strongest allies. Every page was a page turner for me. The only way I can describe this series is “Epic”. I never thought this series would get to be this when I picked up Obsidian. While I am pleasantly surprised, I’m gobsmacked and thrilled to have read this and had the privilege of having the feeling of reading it for the first time.

Daemon, Katy, Archer… these characters and more were amazing! The twists and turns and plot-twists they experienced will have you feeling like you were on a rollercoaster. Some revelations have you thinking, “I did not see that coming!” I love the dual POVs and would love a book from Archer’s perspective. I think that would be fascinating! So much happens and brings everything full circle. I never thought I would fall in love with a story about a young girl with a blog, who falls in love with the hot alien next door! This was absolutely perfect, and I’m so glad I read this!

Wow! Just wow! After one hell of a cliffhanger, things get real very quickly! Katy is with the DOD, and Daemon will do anything to get her back… ANYTHING! This is quite possibly my favorite book in the series. You get dual POV, meet a slew of awesome characters, and one hell of a story! Hold on tight, this one’s gonna be a nail-biter!

As everything is happening, you find out some really disturbing things about what the government is capable of doing. Just when you thought there were only four species inhabiting the planet: Arum, Human, Hybrid, and Luxen, you find out there’s a fifth, Origin. Most disturbing is how they were created. But what makes it interesting is reading the previous three books and realizing where certain characters fall into place. As events unfold, triumphs and betrayals are revealed, can the gang prove they are up to the challenge of what happens next?

As always, the writing is impeccable. Every series has that one book where the tides have changed and in the next book, everything gets serious. Twilight had New Moon and Eclipse. Percy Jackson had Titan’s Curse and Battle of the Labyrinth. Harry Potter had Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix. For the Lux series, the tide changed in Opal and everything is getting very real now! Getting Daemon’s perspective was absolutely awesome! He is hilarious. His interactions with the additional characters were priceless! I am on to the finale of this series!

While reading Origins: 745058

When it’s over: 745947

This series is amazingly awesome!

This is a story for everyone who wishes or imagines they have a superpower! If you could have any superpower, what would it be? That’s a tough question… and it’s one Theo, Sally, and Rueben won’t have to answer! Each one of these characters has a flaw and received a superpower to “fix” their flaws. Let’s meet them!

Theo has been adopted by a wonderful family and a very tragic event he wishes he could forget. Sally is fighting a losing battle against a rare disease that prevents her from sleeping. Rueben, well, he has an emotional disconnect. Together, the three of them, with their newfound abilities, must band together and save the school and possibly the world.

The synopsis is what drew me in, but what kept me was how relatable and realistic the three main characters are. Theo suffers from depression and severe guilt even though he did nothing wrong. Sally is tired of being under the watchful eye of her parents, who just want to make sure she’s alright. She’s slowly dying and there’s nothing anyone can do to save her. Rueben has a terrible home life. He uses humor to avoid and deflect any sort of emotional communication. Their abilities are very reflective of who they are. This book put me in the mind of one of my favorite shows, “Misfits”. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but it does leave some questions unanswered. As this is book one of what looks to be a trilogy, I’m excited to see where this goes!

Breaking Out: Parts I &II ~ Michelle Diener

Current Read pt. 2

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this awesome 2-part story. If you enjoy “X-Men”, I think you would enjoy this. There are a couple of slight differences between the two, but pretty similar as well.

Part One… You meet Kelli, a very special young lady that is kept from others within the facility. You know there’s something special about Kelli.. but there’s something special about everyone there. As room check is happening, a fight occurs and we meet Nate. Nate is about to be transported to another facility. Needless to say, he doesn’t want to go. As Nate is fighting the orderlies, he receives assistance from Kelli…just not the kind he was expecting. As they escape, they pick up Giles along the way. He provides a bit of the comic relief. On their way out, they find a list…it’s a list of everyone in other facilities…who are just like them. So naturally, it’s time to go rescue them!

This leads into Part two…

Nina is trying to fly under the radar and she thinks she’s doing a great job… except, not so much. She’s being tested about her ability and she doesn’t even know it. When provoked, they see just how dangerous Nina can be. Like the others, she’s been biding her time until she can escape…enter Giles, Nate and Kelli. Can the 3 of them get Nina out or will she be captured with the rest of them?

There was a bit of a romance aspect to the stories, which I didn’t mind. But there wasn’t too much focus on that. It was really cool to see different abilities and how it worked for each character. For the purpose of the review, NetGalley combined Parts One and Two, but they will be sold separately. The stories are short, so they can be breezed through. (No, seriously it can happen… I finished Part One and was shocked that I finished it so quickly… truly kept my attention!) I look forward to the rest of this series!
